News Update August 2026

Solar Panel Farm.

Earlier this summer the Parish Council were made aware that some local farmers/landowners had been approached by a consortium wishing to use their land to construct and run Solar Panel arrays, in effect a solar panel farm.

Representatives from what is now termed “Somerset Energy Park” had agreed to attend the September meeting of the Parish Council but subsequently withdrew and now want to mount a detailed consultation campaign later this year and into the early part of 2027.

At this stage there is no indication as to where exactly the proposed development is situated or its scale.

Somerset Council like us were unaware of this proposed development and will naturally be heavily involved when the developers seek to obtain planning permission for change of use of Land etc.

Speed matters.

With Schools having returned, the Parish Council is keen to remind everyone that the vast majority of the roads in our Village are governed by a 30 MPH limit for vehicles. That limit was imposed for the safety of all, particularly Pedestrians. It is never stressed enough that this  maximum speed should only used on those occasions when it is SAFE to do so and not as a general rule of thumb for driving! Our local ‘Speedwatch’ volunteers do an admirable job and find it sad that so many drivers think it acceptable to drive in excess of the 30 miles per hour limit.

Mark Village Hall:
The Parish Council are full of admiration for the manner in which our excellent Village Hall is being run by an enthusiastic committee chaired by the very hard working Jan Horn. Her obvious love of the Village and its excellent Hall has been shown repeatedly over many years.
She is seeking assistance from the Committee and Community in the days and weeks ahead. Do you have some time to spare? Do you have a talent, a skill or an interest in the subjects shown below? (Taken from a request from Jan to other committee members in mid August!)
The Parish Council are aware that some of the residents in our parish do not really appreciate or indeed know of the Village Hall.
Can you help? The Village Hall has its own website.
